Reunion 2010

In the July, 2009 Newsletter we announced that the Grand Gateway Hotel in Rapid City, South Dakota will host our 2010 Reunion. In an effort to reduce your costs and to attract more participants to our reunion the decision was made to have the Truxtun Association perform all the planning for the Rapid City Reunion vice bear the expense of an outside planner. At that time we entered into the planning stage for the tours and the banquet. Lisa Storms and Staff of The Rapid City Visitors and Convention Bureau provided much help in guiding us. The Black Hills of South Dakota has much to see and do and regretfully, we won’t see it all. Therefore, if it is possible, spend an extra day or two in Rapid City and go exploring.

I am happy to report that we have selected Affordable Adventures of Black Hills as our tour operator. A “Wish List” was compiled and presented to the tour operator. With the assistance of Ann Thompson of Affordable Adventures almost all of the “Wish List” has been incorporated, a “Plan of the Day” was then developed for each day that we are in Rapid City and it provides our daily itinerary information as to what we will be doing and when on that day.

Our longest day is Thursday at approximately 14 hours in length. However, this should truly be our most memorable day as considerable time is spent at Mount Rushmore and in the participation at Evening Colors. Friday’s Tour is approximately 9 hours in length and Saturday’s Tour is approximately 7 hours in length.

The cost of each tour is per person and is listed in the “Plan of the Day” and also on the Reunion Registration Sheet. Included in the tours cost are the; Motorcoach(s), Narrating Guides, Admissions to all sites, Parking Fees, Park Motorcoach Fees, Guide and Bus Driver Gratuities, and South Dakota Sales Tax. Stops for Lunch and restroom breaks have been incorporated into all the tours. All meals during the tours will be your responsibility and at your expense and are so noted.

When you review each day’s itinerary and look at a map you will notice that we are driving in a loop and there are three distinct areas or loops we’ll travel. Thursday is the Southern Loop with Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse, Friday is the Eastern Loop with the Badlands and Wall Drugs, and Saturday is the Northern Loop with a Memorial Service at the Black Hills National Cemetery then into the high country of Spearfish Canyon, Waterfalls, Chocolate Truffles and Deadwood City.

Here is a Listing of the Plan of the Day for each day of the Reunion

From the President

Well, that is what is planned. Reality must now set in and we need to discuss reunion expenses.

With the exception of our Charleston, South Carolina Reunion, The Truxtun Association has always included a $50.00 Registration Fee. Included in this fee is a two year Truxtun Association Membership (a $30.00 value), plus all the incurred expenses of the reunion, door prizes, table center pieces, decorations, souvenirs, beverages, US Postal charges, Association Website registration and maintenance fees, and other miscellaneous expenses. We are purely a volunteer organization with no payroll. Therefore, all monies benefit the Truxtun Association.

The cost of Thursday’s Tour is $67.00 per person; Friday’s Tour is $62.00 per person; and Saturday’s Tour is $32.00 per person.
Note: The cost of a tour depends on the number of people who sign up. The fee listed here is the maximum charge for a tour.

The Saturday Evening Reunion Banquet will cost $36.00 per person. The Banquet is a hot buffet and the complete menu is listed separately on its own page. “The Raffle” will follow the Reunion Banquet. See the Banquet Menu page for information.

It is your responsibility to make your room reservations and settle your account with the Grand Gateway Hotel in Rapid City. Our “Truxtun Reunion” room rate is $82.00 per day plus taxes and is valid from September 05, to September 15, 2010. Contact The Grand Gateway Hotel at toll free 1-866-742-1300 to make reservations.

The Reunion Registration Form, The Plan of the Day for each day in Rapid City, and the Reunion Banquet Dinner Menu are available for your review on The Truxtun Association website (www.TruxtunAssn.org). Submit the Registration Form and Personal Check by August 15, 2010 to:
