before January 10, 2009.

Fifth Truxtun Reunion
The Truxtun Association held its fifth reunion in Charleston, South Carolina in
November. Ted Poremski was elected president and relieved Jordan Gmach. The
Association membership is made up of all officers & enlisted who have served or
are currently serving aboard a ship named Truxtun or widows of past crewmembers.
Our membership also includes descendants of Commodore Thomas Truxtun. Pictures
from this gathering of shipmates can be viewed on the Association's website
http://www.TruxtunAssn.org. There were almost fifty people in attendance. Of
course we would have liked to have more becasue, as the saying goes,
the more
the merrier. "Therefore, one of my goals as president, is to reach out to
former Truxtun Sailors and inform them of the Truxtun Association and forth
coming events. Hopefully this outreach will 'spread the word' and increase our
membership," said Ted Poremski.
During the business meeting the membership approved changes to
our by-laws which, among other things,
removed references to the male gender thus in keeping with the Navy's coed
staffing.
The upper Midwest portion of the united States was selected for our next reunion
in 2010. Out of a list of about ten cities four were selected for consideration.
They are listed in order of preference: Rapid City, South Dakota; Branson,
Missouri; Chicago, Illinois; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A volunteer
committee has been formed to perform research on these cities. Any comments or
suggestions can be sent to Secretary@TruxtunAssn.org. Once the reunion city has
been chosen and the dates have been set, we will announce it in the quarterly
newsletter and on the
Coming Events and
DDG-103 Truxtun pages.
The election of officers was held and the results are as follows::
President: Ted Poremski
Vice President: Jerry Lane
Secretary: Jerry Kosowski
Treasurer: Dave Holland
There are five volunteer (non-elected) positions in our organization. They are:
Chaplain: Bruce Kent
Historian: James V. Jones
Reunion Historian: (Currently Open)
Museum Liason: (Currently Open)
Web Master: Jerry Kosowski
If you are interested in filling one of these volnteer positions please contact
the Association President at President@TruxtunAssn.org
Because a new Truxtun is about to be commissioned and the continued use of the
fifth Truxtun's logo would no longer be appropriate for continued use, designs
for a new Truxtun Association logo/patch were displayed for the membership's
consideration and approval. The sketch of the selected design is being finalized
and will soon be displayed on this site.
At the Saturday night banquet a gift exchange was held between those members in
attendance that brought gifts unique to the area of the country from which they
came. Also, a raffle of assorted prizes was held. The winners were Charlie
Bethea, Skip Ryan, Jim Martin, Chalie Keaton, and Peter Hodgkins. "A sincere,
hearty, and much appreciated thank you," from the Association President goes
out to all the prize donors.
